I am looking to purchase the I-Command Classic guages for a new etec. I was trying to see if I can get them cheaper from a source other than the dealer. Any idea who may sell them online or if any of our sponsors sell them?
The I-command classic gauges have to come from Evinrude, so you must buy from an Evinrude dealer, or find some used gauges.
I just repowered with pair of E-TECS and opted for the digital gauges, not classic because you have the option of buying gauges directly from Lorance in addition to Evinrude. You do however need one I-command digital gauge from Evinrude to be able to read E-TEC diagnostic codes.
The I-command digital guages are much more flexable and provide more information than the classic gauges, and no need for those bulky break-out boxes.
jfwireless seems we were here just last week talking about the same thing. I already PM ancientangler about the gauges, and I'm sure he's reading all about the Lowrance NMEA 2000 network about now. So your done with your set up, that's good. As I'm done with mine too. Those gauges are pretty cool and there loaded with info. I really like the pop-up features. Touch the trim button on the throttle control and the pop-up trim gauge appears, that's one of my favorites. But by far the best info is that fuel flow stuff, mpg, gph, fuel remaining, trip fuel consumption, on-time reminder... pretty cool stuff...
Great, I am sure the info you sent will help him get what he needs and answers his questions.
Glad you are happy with your install, but you did take the time to figure it all out, time well spent.
My motors are all installed, but my trim and tilt cables got back-ordered so I am waiting on them to come in next week. I also had rotator cuff surgery last week, so it will be a while until I can get back into the boat, this down time is driving me crazy.
Jfwireless rotator cuff surgery sounds a little dicey, my left shoulder this past October went out while playing golf. Since then just complete rest whenever possible on that shoulder, tried golfing once since then back on Black Friday, was very tentative swinging but didn't re injure it, but I know it's not 100% yet.
Question about the network for you. I'm programing the gauges now and I can't find any type of support for the "Bennett Trim Tabs". I want to use them in the "Pop Up" feature, but Evinrude Manuel says it's not supported...Is there a sensor out there, or is this a future feature to the network ????
Other than that it's cool stuff, and going smoothly...
I installed the digital with my E-Tec and LOVE them. I did buy the Evinrude branded. They have a few more special settings than the Lowrance version. I imagine you could buy 1 from Evinrude to take advantage of the E-Tec stuff and 1 from Lowrance to get the trim data.
I purchased online from ishopmarine.com. Great price and service.

thanks guys for all the information. I'm still digesting.... However this is my understanding in simple terms, please correct me if I'm wrong. I need to purchase the I-command tach from evinrude. From there I can connect the lowarence guages and say a Lowarence GPS/Sonar. If I buy a NMEA 2000 GPS the engine information can actually be dispayed on my GPS screen? If this is so do I have to buy the physical guages?(except for tach).
Ancient- From your post I think you have the impression that you need a lowrance guage to hook up your electronics. You don't. I have only the Evinrude guages and lowrance electronics and all work great. Why not just use the Evinrude?
This is a great leap in the info world.

Ancientangler your Dealer that's selling you that E-Tec will want to install the Tach gauge with the motor install. That's ok, let him do that. It should be the large multi-function 5 button gauge from Evinrude. That way you will receive all the proprietary EMM stuff that is programmed into that Evinrude E-Tec motor and then it will be seen on your gauge. Now with that said you have a "Network" ... Next, You can then buy any NMEA 2000 device you want GPS, Lowrance LMF-200 or 400 gauges and plug and play to your already created network. AS LONG AS EVERYTHING IS NMEA 2000 COMPATIBLE, IT WILL SHARE ALL THE INFORMATION EVERYWHERE. You then can pick which gauges or devices that you like best and view it from that screen or gauge. It will share all the info until you black it out, at least mine does. The smaller gauges are limited some, as compared to the larger ones that will view everything.
Just keep this in mind when you add something like GPS you will also be adding an antenna and both will need to be NMEA 2000 to work. If you want Fuel Flow info your going to have to add a module memory sensor. So just keep reading that stuff on the Lowrance Network CANBus system and you will see all the things that can be added. My only caution to you would be if your adding a GPS and your going to be buying it to add, think ahead in the future as one day like me I will want to add a Radar so I want to make sure my new GPS is compatible for Radar as well as being NMEA 2000. Just something else to consider, I'm just trying to prevent something like that from happening to you down the road....(Buying a new GPS thats NMEA 2000 but does not accept Radar....eh-oh, oh-no...)
It's all interesting stuff, let me know how your doing with it. As it's all new to me too....

The lowrance LMF-400 and LMF 200 both support the Bennet EP-30 trim tab sensors. As the I-Command gauges are Lowrance LMF-200 and LMF-400 gauges with added firmware for the E-TEC outboards, I am confused as to why Evinrude does not support trim tabs with their I-Command gauges. As the EP-30 is a Lowrance product, maybe it is a vendor issue.
Maybe it works but Evinrude does not support it. Here is another reason besides gauge price that suggests buying only one Evinrude I-Command gauge for E-TEC set-up and engine diagnostics, and the rest Lowrance LMF gauges.
I am also interested in trim tab pop up functionality, so next week I will call Evinrude on this subject. Maybe somebody on this forum knows the answer.
As for the rotator cuff, I had no options, bone spurs in my shoulder were racking my tendon, so the bone spurs had to be cut off and the tendon repaired.

Jfwireless Even when I look at the Lowrance Net system it lists "Bennett Trim Tabs" as an option but shows no Electronic Probe Sensor..... Which leads to me to think, it's a future product for the network....You listed in your post the EP-30, as the sensor right, can't locate that sensor on their site. Also if that's the sensor for the Bennett Trim Tabs, sign me up as I'll be buying one ASAP for my set-up...
You can get information about the I-Command classic gauges, as well as the newer digital styles, in the latest installation guide from Bombardier. You will find more information in this article:
The article has links to a PDF of the installation guide. This newest edition covers all three styles of connectors used with Evinrude I-Command gauges.

If you download the LMF-400 gauge manual from the Lowrance site the manual defines the Bennett trim tab option using the EP-30 sensors on the trim tabs. I do not know why the EP-30 sensors are not listed by name. However Bennett lists the NMEA 2000 trim tab sensors as model number NMEA1, here is a link to an add selling the Bennett NMEA1 trim tab sensors kit. I bet BOE Marine sells them also.

Thanks for the info. I read this and another one of these continuouswave.com posts over the last couple weeks. Great info on that site and it really helped me with the understanding of the network. Great Post, thanks....
But still no mention of the Bennett Trip Tab sensor ???
jfwireless...aka...one hand Jim (I like "Cool Hand Jim" ) better, anyway. I read the entire lowrance net site a few days ago, I remember they mentioned the Bennett Trim Tab, but forgot about that page 61 in the download section.
So there it is EP-30 sensor listed in the Manuel, but I couldn't find one, nor see one available until now, thru Bennett.
So you found it on the Bennett web site, that's great...Your right BOE marine might have them, but I'm not sure. But I know Bennett Marine most likely will and it's main Headquarters is here in Deerfield Beach, Fl. just 15 minutes NE of me....Guess I'll be talking to them Monday morning......Thanks Cool Hand Jim..
Jim you mentioned earlier that it was another reason why to go with the Lowrance gauges besides price being lower too. Well Lowrance probably doesn't have one yet either...Also when I got the total price from my Dealer for all my gauges, Comparing the Evinrude I-Command Digital to the Lowrance LMF Digital gauges, the same 4 gauges my dealers price was $114.00 higher, but his price also included installed, as this was already agreed upon by us when we wrote the contract...
