Default anybody with experience in BRP E-tec laptop software???

I've been hearing a lot of stories about this software and some don't make sense...
Is there anybody who can tell me what is the last version for the diagnogstic software???
does it run on Win XP or Vista???

The other issue that does not make sense is that i understand this software was relesed recently... but the cable that they sell has a DB-9 serial conector on the laptop side.. but most fairly new computers has only USB... so what do you use to go from USB to DB-9???? adapter, PCMCIA card???

I do not have any answers concerning ETEC diagnostic software, but I can tell you there are USB to serial adaptor cables should you have a laptop with only USB conectivity.

With my last boat with twin 225 HP FICHTs, I went and purchased the BRP software. It worked just fine on my Windows XP (Home edition) notebook. It also worked on a Windows XP Professional notebook I have. I purchased a serial to USB dongle, and that permitted me to get connected.

The version I had was from 2002 or 2003, but I don't have the verison number handy. If you need it, I can post it tonight or tomorrow.

I would really appreciate if you could post it, I also heard there is a E-tec version that also works on fitchs, so maybe thats the one you have...

According to my research version 1.52 is only Fitch and version 2.03 is E-tec/Fitch... I would appreciate if somebody could confirm this...

The version of the BRP Evinrude diagnostic software is 1.1.0.6, and it's from March 2005. The "about" page states that it works with Evinrude Direct Injection (FICHT) and E-Tec. I'm sure it's been upgraded more than a few times since I got it.

I have the Evinrude diagnostic software also. I use it for twin 2003 175 hp Fichts and my version is 1.0.2.7. There is no date on the "about" page other than a 2004 copyright date. The narrative does state that it is for use on Direct injection & E-Tec motors. Some of the files in the software have a 9/16/2005 date on them. I don't know if this helps or confuses the issue more. Good luck with it.

Bokat: what Operative system are you running on your laptop...

Question to everybody: how are you overcoming the issue of the regular DB-9 serial connector on the BRP cable to connect to the laptop...are you using some kind of adapter from USB to DB-9 or you use old computer with regular serial ports???

Em,

I have Windows XP Home edition version 5.1 on my laptop. My laptop is a Toshiba and also does not have a serial port. I went to Radio Shack and bought a USB - Serial cable. It works just fine. It is a bit expensive, $40 I think I remember, and you might be able to find a cheaper one somewhere else.

I have one issue with the software. I get a warning message sometimes when I start the program up. It says "A bootstrap connector has been detected....." and I can't establish communication with the EMM. The best info I can get from Bomb. is that it has to do with the COM ports. The ports have to be set correctly, there can be no conflicts. I don't use the software that often so I have to fiddle with the COM ports until I remember how to do it. I seem to get the warning message when I use the software after I have plugged in other USB devices. The COM port configuration must be resetting or changing when I use other USB hardware, I haven't really figured it out yet totally.

You will probably want to get the shop manual for your engine(s) because the software will give you an error or maint. code that you will have to look up. In my 2002 - 2003 Evinrude manual the last page is a fold-out with all the EMM code numbers and a short description of the malfunction.

I don't know if this software will work with Windows Vista. You may have to call Bomb. on that. 1-847-689-7090. I hope this helps. Let me know if I can be of any furthere help.

Default RE: anybody with experience in BRP E-tec laptop software???

well thank you all for your great help.. It's 10:05 and I couldn't wait till tomorrow to check if the program works..
I got (don't ask how ) version1.2.1.2 dated 3/12/2006 part number 763724....

I don't know if that helps anybody but the thing, against all predictions, is that is working with Vista business...believe it or not... may be one of the only things that works in Vista....

Also, I found another option to the DB-9 connector to USB... I bought on Ebay a PCMCIA card with a serial port... the funny thing is that the card cost $4 and the shipping??..... $12... total 16 bucks, and is espoused to take 3 weeks to get here but I got it on week and a half...

well, long story short, everything worked flawless... connected right away and was able to SEE (cant modify anything)

I also found the source of my problem with the two engines labeled as port...

Well sharing my good news, I hope is useful for somebody else...

Em,
You may have to register the software before you can make any changes to the settings. Go to the information menu at the top and click on it. Then click on register. You will have to make up a dealer number, any number, and I just used the word Evinrude for dealer name and then put my address in the address blanks. It sounds like you just about got it all figured out. Good job.
