Re: Tr 1 virtual anchor question, My preference is bow into whatever force there is, wind or current. Hit heading hold and adjust the throttles to match the speed of the wind or current to hold you in one spot. Sometimes that's both engines in gear and throttled above idle. Sometimes that's only one engine in gear and at a dead idle speed or even bumping that one engine in and out of gear. It all depends on the force. The benefit of using heading hold is you don't need to put a waypoint exactly in front or behind you, just put your bow into the force and you're done. The TR-1 and your engine(s) will do the rest. If, for example, you find that your too close to the wreck and need to move up current a bit to make sure you baits drift back to the spot instead of over it, just throttle up a little and move forward until you have the right spot. Same thing for moving backward to center yourself over the wreck, throttle back and allow yourself to drift back until positioned correctly. You're effectively adjusting your position along your heading or rhumb line. The first time I used this function was while waiting for a bridge to open. Pulled up, hit heading hold, adjust the throttle and relaxed. I was amazed at how well the AP held the bow into the current with one engine. Also used it while kite fishing for sails to slow the drift and keep everything off the stern of the boat. It's really a sweet function! May the "force" be with you...
