Default AM/FM reciever problem

I have a Jensen MCD 5110 a cd player/radio that has recently developed the following problem. The radio does not recieve anything I get only static. It worked when I bought the boat last fall. Here is what I know about the problem....

Problem:
The radio does not recieve broadcast from AM/FM.

Data about the problem ...
It is the radio broad cast only
It is not the CD player which works fine the digital display for the tuner

It is no reception for both AM/FM and not only AM or only FM, not other radios

It happens everywhere, my driveway (good signal for other radios) not only at the lake or on the bay.

It happened sometime over the winter as I got broadcast last fall I have had no radio reception since then so it is constant and not intermitttant

It is the entire broadcast and not a slight or dimenished signal.

There has been no change to the wiring of the antenna. It runs through a Shakespeare splitter. I can pull the antenna wire from the splitter and the static is gone but still no reception. I can't find a web site that works for Jensen and I don't have a trouble shooting manual. Any ideas?

Sounds like time for a replacement unit.

Have you checked the antenna connection on the back of the Am/Fm Radio?

If you have, and it looks ok, then the receiver in the radio is shot, time for a new radio.

Yeah I checked it. Other than to make sure it is plugged in I don't know what to check.

Yea, that's what I meant, make sure it is plugged in.

Try Something Simple

Go to a store,Wallmart for instance, and get a car radio antenna. Then try it in the radio, you will know right away if it the radio or your old antenna setup.

Alot cheaper than a new radio, and a simple test.

Enjoy....

Listen to Tuna1! Real good probability it's the antenna. I'd definitely try that first.

Nope. Because you WILL get at least a few FM radio stations where most marina's are (close to a major city or town) regardless of wether your antenna is bad, broken or even hooked up for that matter. You will NOT get any AM stations without a good antenna, but you will get strong FM stationswithout an antenna or at least with a wire (like a broken antenna..) connected to it. But if you get nothing with a antenna hooked up (good one, broken one or bad one, doesn't matter), the receiver in the unit is shot.

Get a new radio.
