Default Warranty - how do they know???

How do manufs. seem to know when thier products will fail,, and warranty them to just before that happens? My rig is three seasons old and zero shortcuts with initial rigging. Now have the entire steering system to replace (helm and cylinder) plus the main livewell pump, all now out of warranty, some only 4 months. Can understand the livewell pump, but not the Seastar helm and cylinder. Whatever, as long as we pay, they will play, and we really have no choice. Just doesn't seem right, considering the costs.

Such is boating!

It is important that you research how a mfgr honors warranty before buying a new boat. There are some with lotsa horror stories and some with lotsa praises. That being said, choosing a good dealer can make a world of difference. Some dealers feel that when a boat leaves a lot, their responsibility is gone. In a way this is true; but a good dealer will fight for you when it comes to warranty support.

Also, warranties split the boat into many pieces; deck, hull, motors, controls, electronics, fittings, etc and each has it's own tale.

If you think boating ain't fair, you ought to read my divorce decree.

you should definitely push to get the repairs covered that close to the end of warranty. if you squeak loud enough, you make out OK.

You don't really believe that they do that, do you?

Warranties are meant to cover defects in workmanship and materials, not to guarantee that the product will never break or wear out. Usually these defects become apparent within a few weeks or months of first use.

And consider this - The manufacturer's cost in providing a warranty is built in to the price of the product. Longer warranty - higher initial price.

Except for Moen faucets. Lifetime, no questions asked. Even for the internal cartridge that DOES wear out.

Why is it that as soon as your vehicle is out of warranty something breaks??? See, it's the same thing everywhere. Murphy's Law I guess.
