Default Shoot through with low end Fish Finder?

Will the transom mount transducer from a lower end Fish Finder shoot through the hull? Looking at Lowrance or Garmin priced between $150.00 and $200.00

PS, The hull is solid glass

Thanks!

If you use epoxy to glue the trancducer it will work if there are no voids in the hull below the ducer. Test the location using a plastig bag filled with water prior to gluing.

Lowrance has a special purpose slow curing epoxy for this purpose to ensure that no air bubbles are trapped in the epoxy.

The Lowrance units are good fishfinders. Eagle is produced by the same company, almost identical but cheaper. Eagle FishMark 480 DF you can get for $210 including ducer. The corresponding Lowrance model, X-126 iwill cost you $100 more.

A cheaper alternative would be FishMark 320 DF whichisidenticalto480DFexceptfor screenresolution.$158atBOE.

Lowrance/Eagle low end fishfinders are much better than Garmin.

480DF has 480x480 resolution. 320DF has 320x320. Garmin 160C has only 128x128 resolution.

Much better with a high resolution monochrome than low resolution color screen. With only 128 points you will have problems getting fish arcs. The Garmin 160C don't have split zoom either. A fishfinder wich such low resolution and no split zoom is useless for finding fish.
