Default Humminbird side imaging

I've read the posts that I can, but I'm still not clear on something.

The side imaging works best at depths to 100' and speeds up to 7-8mph. More than that and quality degrades real fast.

But as I understand it, it still shoots straight down. So at faster speeds and deeper depths, you may lose the side imaging, but not the vertical image. At worst it works just like all the other fish finders on the market.

Does that sound right?

2D dual beam fishfinder in Humminbird SI units works fantastic, even much better then many many others, but because of the SI transducer body shape in some installations, high speed performance are limited also. In that case, You can add transducer switch and puck transducer for good high speed performance. For 2D soundings, it`s possible to choose between higher/lower frequency beam or both 2D beams by software.

Thanks for the reply. So you're saying I could have two transducers and switch between them? One for the vertical/2d stuff when going fast or deep and the side imaging one for going slow and shallow?

Exactly, for high speed applications Humminbird offer "High speed kit". Info about this You can find here:

http://www.humminbird.com/retail/pro...duct%5Fid=1316

Humminbird SI (and other models) units are so sensitive, and having amazing DSP built in. Digital filtering, and digitalization generally, are derived on the way that You never seen yet because of powerful built-in processor. That downlooking sonar is exceptional. I saw many units before but this is something what You never seen before.
