Default Garmin 4212 Install

I downloaded the installation instructions for the Garmin 4212. They indicatedt that 7" of space was required to install the unit. Is this really correct? I have about 5.5" behind the CC. Will the unit fit? Can the cables be squished?

You could fit the unit, but you wouldn't be able to plug anything into it! Would it be possible to make holes to give clearance for the cables/plugs?

Jim,

I currently have a 2010 in the console. There is room for the plugs with the 2010. How much dieeper is the 4212 than the 2010?

Maybe I could make a bracket to move the electronics out an inch or so.

That's my solution. I'm going to build a starboard box sticking out of the panel to hold my 4208, at an angle towards the Nav seat.
