I am trying to decide what system to install on my new CC and want to know the difference between the C-120 unit and the E-120 unit from Raymarine. I plan on installing just one multifunction unit for GPS Radar and Sounder on the boat (Southport 28' TE). Is there any real advantages to the E series on a single unit CC intallation?
What Elusive said - the differences are not worth the added expense for just one screen. I have 2 E-80 Screens - fully integrated with a high speed network switch - you can't do that with the C. Other than that the differences are nice, but not critical, but I like them all the same - I am gadget guy. But if you think you may go to 2 screens in the future - go with the E series so it will remain an option
Ditto Elusive,
for just one screen it would be worth it to go with the C series unless you need the video card or you absolutely need the platinum data card, then you need to go with the E series. I have a C80 and a C120, M260 Sonar, Sirius Weather/radio, 4KW Radome Radar, and AIS Receiver on my Intrepid and very satisfied with Raymarine equipment/support. You will not be disappointed!
The E series has the following that the C series does not:
The screen is brighter (never heard a complaint about the brightness of a C120)
You can use the Platinum cartography (Sat photos, 3D view). Most describe it as a neat toy, not critical
Networkable (not necessary in your case)
Has video input for cameras, IPOD's etc. if you want to watch video
Correct. No reason (for a typical user) to have an E-Series for a single station setup. In fact, I have a C80 and just installed the Sirius WX and radio receiver (SR 50) and it allowed me to connect the sat radio to my receiver input- and control it directly from the C80 display! Awfully cool, and the E-Series doesn't do it
Thanks for the clarification. Video input would be nice however not necessary - especially while piloting.
Now only if I could decide on C80 (640x480) or C120 (800x600)?
Although I rather have the C120 for larger screen and sharper images. I don't think there is enough space for the larger platform. Time to pull out the measuring tape.

When measuring, don't forget to look BEHIND the place where you are going to mount it. When I put the C80 in my last boat, due to the limited depth, I had to have a 1/2" starboard "trim ring" for want of a better term, to allow the unit to sit and the cables to bend properly.
I have twin E 120 and there a lot of great things about the system.
There are a lot of threads on this web site about the E 120 , in particular to their sensitivity to low power and some gremlins that get inside them when that happens.
