Default Garmin 4212 can it read weather bouy?

We were out the other day and we were curious what the conditions were offshore. He said that his raymarine gps/plotter will read the information from the weather buoy. We tried to do this on my Garmin 4212 and could not get it to bring up an info? Is this possible? When heading out I just moved the cursor and found the weather buoy, placed the cursor on it and hit information. It didn't give me any info, like wave height etc.......

thanks in advance

Do you have the XM weather module and an active subscription? If so it will read buoy data. If yours was not reading the data it is possible that layer of data had not been downloaded yet.

I believe the XM subscription is ~$15 a month. It's been a few months since I looked at it, but for some reason that price rings a bell with me.

I have the 4208 with the Fisherman's package.. it's 29.00 per month. The top of the line package is required to recieve bouy data, I believe.. and it's 49.00 per month.

I subscribe for $50 per month, but you can pay month to month, no long term contracts. I really like the XM feature it's came in handy several times already.
