Default Garmin 3010 question and TR-1 question

First question is: The screen on my 3010c looks like hell. The guy before me had it for about 4 months and ruined it and I am just now getting around to fixing it. Do they make a replacement screen for this?? It is beyond cleaning unless there is someway to lightly wet sand with 3000 grit and then buff it.

Second?: My TR-1 is not working. It says heading sensor failure. It is interfaced with the 3010c. I am wondering if anyone has had this problem before.

the tr-1 connects fine to the 3010c - I have the same setup - you have the wire coming from the tr- 1 not making the connection into the 3010. Mine has worked perfect for or 18 months...

as far as the screen, yes, they can look like crap - garmin will usually replace the first one and then tell you you're on your own..a simpler alternative is take the non reflective coating off with windex with ammonia and put a screen film on it - a good one is from navprotector.com. I am going on 2 years and it looks perfect...I clean it with anything I want....

Hey thanks Glen. Ill def. give that screen a shot. That autopilot question though, are you saying that a wire from the TR-1 to my Garmin is not connected or could be short etc...?

yes...it's a bad connection - one wire comes up from the tr-1 (black) and connects to a NMEA "in" - done....

if it ever worked... you probably just have a corrosion issue - that 's why my behind the dash connections get sprayed with CRC-656 every month...

Just an observation...I sent my 3010 back last week because of fogging. I removed the Navprotector film I applied before I sent it back. I thought they might claim the film was affecting the screen. The Navprotector appeared to either pull off some of the original screen coating, or left a residue. I didn't look at it that close...will do it when it comes back. Just a thought. Not sure where I'm going with this.

Garmin should replace the screen for a flat rate fee. If I am not mistaken it cost around 250.

Be quick about it, they don't work on 2010's now and soon they may not service the 3000 series, I learned the hard way.
