Default Going from larger stem thru-hull x-ducer to smaller stem thru-hull

I just bought a used Furuno 582L from a marine electronics store with a new 600w transducer (b45 I think). My old thru-hull had the larger stem (maybe 2" dia) and the new one is much smaller. I was assured by the fella at the electronics store that I could go from larger to smaller using nothing more than lots of 5200 given time to set...I just went with the flow, but now that I'm home...the hole in my hull leaves nothing for the nut on the new transducer to tighten to. Could I just use a big washer and fill the void with 5200? Any other way aside from patching the hole and starting over?

Nevermind...just buying a 1Kw to fill the hole and returning the 600w.

Good call.

Plugging a hole with 5200 is not a good way to go. If you had kept the smaller-stem transducer the only way to fit it in the same place would have been to patch the old hole with GRP and glass in a backing plate. Only after this lot had set could you consider making a new hole and fitting a new transducer.

Imagine if the new transducer and its 5200 plug all fell out as a single unit whilst pounding in heavy seas!

That exact line of reasoning led me to my conclusion That's a big hole if it lets go...
