Default Northstar 6000i, Furuno 1920c or Northstar 6100i

I have not seen the Northstar 6100i. Having a new boat built and was figuring on the Furuno. Then I noticed the 6000i was just a little more. Then the 6100i appeared on the scene. I have always had Furuno.

Anyone have any thoughts. At this level price is not the major consideration.

The Furuno will be a better radar and sounder (light years ahead on both), the Northstar will be a bit better of a chartplotter. If you have had Furuno in the past, you are familiar with their user interface, I'd probably stick with the Furuno. The 8000i is touch screen and after seeing it and the Garmin 5212 at Miami boatshow, I'd be going Garmin if I wanted a touchscreen.

i have a 15" 6000i w/ sounder and 48 mi. open array radar. nice unit when it works. just got the display back from the shop, now the sounder is screwin up, and the radar just spins and spins - no picture. dealer in s florida sells furuno, simrad, and northstar. told me he can't understand why people pay a premium for a unit (northstar) that always needs repaired. i feel like a fool. FWIW, when i sent in my display, northstar had a 30 day turnaround on repairs. must have been quite a backlog....buy the furuno!

Before the days of multi-function displays, I was a firm believer in Furuno for radars and sounders and Northstar could not compare to anything else as far as loran, gps, etc. Nothing came close. My old Northstar 941 XD was unbelievable and very easy to use. Now all I here about Northstar is disappointing. That is too bad. Furuno still makes a fine product. I went with Raymarine on this boat and am very happy
