Re: Ethanol in Marine Fuel - Where to get it? Lazy,
I will agree that there are problems with ethanol based fuels, however, if you are careful you can avoid some of the problems. E-10, 10% ethanol will not absorb 100% of itself resulting in 10% water. I do not have a chemistry book handy, but ethanol is only able to absorb a certain percentage of moisture, at a given temperature. As the temperature changes so does the ability of ethanol to hold the moisture.
I am into my third year of E-10, I have no choice. I have had no problems. One must check out their fuel tank type as well as condition inside. I have a friend who was towed in 8 times last year because over the course of twenty years of boating he had acculmuated a considerable ammount of moisture in his tank, more than the E-10 could bond to. With his old non E-10 fuel it just sat below his pickup line. |
