Anyone have any experience with Trimble handheld GPS units. I have several Garmin fixed mount units on three different boats but recently ran across a Trimble Flightmate Pro GPS that a friend has. Also, does anyone have a owners manual for this unit?

I use plenty of Trimble equipment for land surveying. Trimble is typically professional grade stuff. I use an old Lowrance handheld that they also marketed as an aerial nav unit in my boat and I love it. It has to run on 12v because it sucks batteries but the display is larger, it has true moving map, heading up display and a lot of other features not typically found on handhelds. So it might be worth looking at.

Probably for marine use it might be a little out of place unless of course you have use for worldwide Jeppesen aeronautical data-base of airports and VOR's, Glide ration calculator, gives True AIRSPEED plus a few other aircrafty things.

But it does have a MOB (Man overboard) button Now that's what all aircraft should have "Man Overboard"

Apart from that I think they were only a 3 channel capable of tracking only 8 satellites, which by today's standards is a little outdated.

Really for the application intended (marine) there's probably more suited receivers than this one but at the right price they'll all do something better than nothing.

Cheers, Kerry.

I never get lost, everybody tells me where to go!
