Default Heading sensor

I recently installed a Furuno 1731 MK III 4 kw. with radome my question is what are the advantages of hooking up a heading sensor. I understand I would get true echo trails just what does this mean.

Since that unit is a stand alone radar you won't get radar overlay no matter how many sensors you add.

However, you could get the ability to display in North up (to match your plottter or chart), true echo trails where you know the actual direction the target is traveling, and I believe with a GPS connected also you can plot a target position. That feature is helpful when you want to "borrow" a distant boats fishing spot.
