Default Lowrance Y cables for LGC-2000 and expanding the network

Hi,

Does anyone know if the older Y cable that came with at least some LMS-337C DF
is incompatable with the 120 ohm terminated setup they now recommend?

It looks like I could leave the Y connected to the LGC-2000, and plug the
ends into Ts or terminate, depending. But, I do not know if that cable is
special and made to work with the 60 ohm terminator only. The NMEA-2000
pamplet seems to indicate I need to toss the Y cable, get an extender and a T.
Actually, to fully do this, I need an extender for the LGC-2000, 2 Ts, a and 2'
cable to get to the LMS-337C DF, which is going to cost about $90, shipped.

I'm adding an LMF-400 and EP-10. This kit came with 120 ohm terminators and
power cable, as well as 2 Ts, so that is set. I just need to connect the
LMS-337C DF and LGC-2000 to the new stuff.

Thanks,

Mike

You need to add the 2 T's and cables. Your current setup is the "Mini" NMEA 2000 network and will only work when there are only two drops on the network. Once you go to three or more drops you need the full network with each drop plugged into a "T" and 120 ohm terminators at each end. If the dealer who sold you the components is educated in NMEA 2000 networking, they should be able to help you out with proper cable lengths, power supply, etc.

I pretty much have it figured out. I was hoping someone would say "nah, the Y will
work if you put it on the end of the network and put a 120 ohm on the end."

The 120ohm terminator and 120 ohm/power cable came with the LMF-400/EP-10
kit. Also 2 Ts and an extension cable.

Let's just say the NMEA-2000 network included the with the $159 LMF-400
kit is significantly better than what came with the LMS-337C DF/LGC-2000. To
upgrade is going to cost $90. Two Ts, a 2' cable and a (forget the length - 12'?)
cable.

Better to do it right and be done with it, I guess.

Thanks,

Mike

Well, it works for the time being. I have the EP-10 going to an extension cable
into a T. I'm treating the Y cable as a "soft-T" as I seen it called in one of the
newer NMEA-2000 documents from Lowrance. Anyhow, when the parts arrive,
I'll convert to a 120ohm terminated network. But, it's worth trying if you can't get
the parts. Just try to keep the backbone of the network short. Might not
work if I had put the T at the EP-10 and the terminator at the transom?

Custom gauge configuration on the head unit is pretty nice. You can select
what's important to you and how you want it displayed...the LMF-400 will
serve as an additional display unit. If the head unit were to fail, I would still
be able to see my location...
