Garmin 3210 NMEA

Connecting a Garmin 3210 to Furuno LS4100 and Icom-422. (This is a new question, thought I would start a new thread.)

The 3210 is receiving depth and temp from the LS-4100 but neither it or the Icom is receiving data from the Garmin.

Using the secong diagram on page 8 of the Garmin installation manual.

It shows a NMEA TX/RX- going to ground. Neither of my devices has this wire. Is it essential? Could this be my problem? How do I connect it if it isn't there?

Call Garmin and ICOM to be sure...but I have the 3210 and I had to splice the NMEA wires (2) on the Icom wires and take its outer wrap of each (grey like on an VHF antenna cable) NMEA wire and twist it and insert it into a connector that ran to ground. Look at the ICOM installation guide.

The ICOM's have shield wires that act as grounds. You have to strip the inout/out wires from the ICOM so that you can connect the shield wires to a common ground ..... like this. The purple/blue wires in the picture come from my Garmin 2206 and the two black wires are connected to grounds on my Blue Sea Fuse Block.
