Default Garmin 3210 , NEMA

I installed my Garmin 3210 and it is receiving the depth and temp from my Furuno LS4100 with no problem. However it is not sending position data to either my depth finder or my DSC radio. I am certain the connections are right, it's receiving the GPS and the NEMA inputs from the sounder fine.

I have the sounder wired to port 1 and the DSC to port 2. Both ports have been changed to NEMA IN/OUT.

I thought maybe there is a need to enable which NEMA sentences you want the 3210 to transmit, but the only thing I find in the manual is to change the port to NEMA. Am I missing something?

Default Is it an ICOM, SH, Uniden

If it's an ICOM there there is a shield wire around the NMEA in/out wire thatare actually ground wires. Those two shield grounds need to be connected to a common ground.

Yes it is an ICOM-422 and I didn't connect this grounding jacket. Also my Furuno has a bare ground wire. But now that I think about it, why would it affect the input and not the output?

It's the radio input/output that needs to be grounded.

I think I might have figured it out, for the Furuno anyway. I was just re-reading the manual and there is an istallation menu for the LS-4100 to turn on GPS/WAAS and NEMA. I'll check it out in the morning.

If that fixed the sounder, the DSC might be a connection issue. The wires from the Icom 422 are the smallest wires I've ever seen, much smaller that the NEMA wires on the Garmin and Furuno. I might have cut them too far, I'll check that too.

I have to splice the DSC NEMA wires to have enough length, any tricks to strip those teeny wires without cutting the wire itself? My wire stripper wouldn't cut it, the smallest it will cut is 22ga. I stripped it with a box cutter but I couoldn't keep from cutting the thin wires too.

Try pinching the wire between your finger nails and pulling. Helps sometimes.

I am having this same problem with a Furuno FCV585 and a 3210. I can tell you that if you go to your comm setup screen in the bottom left it has an advanced setup button for the NEMA sentences. Anyway, my problem is that I have verything hooked up correctly. I have DSC working on a standard horizon radio, smartcraft guages are working with the GPS and my 585 is sending data to my 3210. But the 3210 will not talk back to the 585. Has anyone had a problem like this? The Furuno has some very nice features that I can't use due to no GPS input.
