I have a nokia cell phone that I use a booster/hands free with in my car. It is a nokia brand hands free/booster specific for the cell phone. I am wondering if I buy a second hands free/booster like I have in my car I would mount it in the boat boat. Then i would get a bit more wattage etc. My concern is the whip? The one supplied is obviously designed for car window. DO the marine whips come with specific ends? I wonder if you can get one that may plug direclty into cell phone and /or the booster with has a different plug. They may be Nokia specific plugs??? I know the back of my cell has a receptacal for the eternal whip when you drop the phone into the hands free kit......any thoughts
Digital Antenna makes adaptors to connect your cell phone (via that little port on the top-back of the phone) to various antennas. Although Digital makes them they are also sold under Shakespeare's name. You can buy them (between $25 and $29 each as I recall) from Consumer Marine Electronics at www.consumermarine.com I have one around here for a Nokia somewhere, from our old 6185 and 5185i phones, it was one of the less expensive ones as I recall. I don't know if this would connect with your power booster or not, but on the antenna end for the Digital Antenna's version of a cell whip they use a mini VHF connector, I think Shakespeare does the same with their newer antennas. I say that because when we were using a bag phone on the boat I had a cell antenna by Shakespeare that had a plain PL-259 on its end and I had to use adaptors to get it to match up with the adaptor for the phone itself. Then when we switched over to digital phones I got a new antenna, by Digital Antenna this time, and it didn't require additional adaptors, other than I had to buy a new plug in adaptor for the Motorola V-60 phones we're now using.

I leave my cell phone in the cabin where I can't hear it ring when I'm fishing /boating!!! Why would anyone want a "better" sounding cell phone on their boat? I go boating so I don't have to hear cell phones!!##$!%^%!~?
Exactly the point. That's why I stubornly hold on to my decade old 2-stroke. The noise masks any incomming call. I pitty those guys with the new 4-strokes ..... Not.
I look at it like this, the phone is just another piece of safety equipment if its needed. Other than that there's no good reason to have it on board and many good reasons not to have it, but safety is what it is and if carrying another 4 or 5 ounces of equipment might mean the difference, well, you know what I mean.
I do have to tell you this, and it amused me no end. There is a fellow who visits this board, and I'm not going to say who it is, but it was once said of him that if you couldn't get hold of him he must be dead. I've always been sort of gadget junkee myself, but compared to this fellow and the state-of-the-art communications he surrounded himself with, well, none of us was a match. Now you can try to guess who it is.

Thanks guys. I must admit that I am a major gadget freak and was sitting at work today wondering what projects to do to the boat this winter......I also have an extra mount available after my loran died, gotta have a new whip up on that mount next summer!!!!!!
I hate to chat on board the boat with anyone on the cell phone, but it is a nice feature to have a strong signal if trying to call back to wife and explain why you will be soooo late....
