Default Chartplotters Compatible with Navionics Navchart Chips

I have a Northstar 951xD plotter that has been upgraded to use Navionics XL chips in Navchart format. I am considering purchasing a used 952 as an upgrade and keeping the 951 as a spare. Considering that this unit is "old technology", is it worth it for me? I have about 6 of these chips to cover Florida, the Bahamas, Caribbean, coast of Venezuela, and Central America. This was a significant investment, and I hate to lose this by going to a new model or different brand.

Are there other options that I may not be aware of? Is there a more modern plotter that will use my cartography?

Does Navionics have any kind of exchange program?

Thanks!

Default Re: Chartplotters Compatible with Navionics Navchart Chips

Several things you might want to consider. If my information is correct, I believe Northstar has been acquired by Simrad, who also recently acquired Lowrance. My understanding is all of these companies have been folded into a new company called Navico! Might want to wait and see what new features they might add to the Northstar brand. It appears the trend in new plotters is away from the "chart card" and towards high capacity "hard drives" which contain pre-loaded charts. Check the Lowrance 111 and 113 units. I do believe Navionics has an exchage program --- check their website. Good luck!
