Default Pls help choosing transducer for Trophy boat and Garmin

Hi! I have Trophy model 2503 W/A, 1992 with twin outboards. Trying to find transducer for Garmin 498c. I'm fishing both bay and deep, so I have to go with dual. Looks like I can not go with trans. mount due to cavitation. I called Garmin but they said to find the deadrize and to call Trophy. I called dealers/service, but they have no idea on the degree, only one of them said that it is MAYBE 14-18 degree. Anyone knows? And what is the best spot to mount?
Garmin has alot of ducers on their site:

No problem with plastic, but some boaters worry about the plastic cracking an leaking. If you had a wooden boat, plastic would be a definate no-no.

The potential problem with both these sensors is that unless you mount them on a surface that's flat a parallel to the water, you will always be shooting a beam out to the side of your boat. If you have an 18 degree deadrise, the beam would shoot 18 degrees to the side.

A transducer like the 010-10183-01 is a bit more complicated to install, but comes with a fairing that you cut to the exact deadrise of your hull to ensure the beam shoots straight down. However, if you trailer the boat you must choose the install location carefully to that the bunks or rollers do not strike the transducer and fairing.

If your hull bottom is solid fiberglass (NOT cored) another option you have is to use an in-hull transducer such as 010-10327-00 (200/50KHz, 12/45deg, plastic, adj. in-hull mount transducer). This one adjusts to the hulls deadrise very easily, you don't have to drill any holes, and there is no risk of your transducer hitting anything. Performance is purported to be comparable to through-hull units.

FYI, all of Garmin's transducers (and most other brands for that matter) are made for by Airmar. Just about the only difference is the connector on the end. Airmar has a great website with a product selector and an extensive FAQ on installation and how transducers work.

One thing you can try, if you can return the transducer (transom mount type), is to put it in a baggie with water closed shut around the wire with a wire tie and lay it on the bottom of the hull inside the bilge (face down) while anchored and see if you get a good signal. If you have someone with you then you can drift while checking the results and even have them drive the boat and see how well the signal picks up under way. I did this with my Trophy 1802 and found I could epoxy the transducer to the hull in the bilge and it worked fine for the two years I had it. I just made a form out of some cardboard and taped it to the inside of the hull, filled with about 1/2" epoxy and placed the transducer into it face down till the epoxy set up. The secret is no air bubbles and keep the transducer at the right angle so it's signal goes straight down. I used a 10 minute epoxy from Boaters World.

Well first you need to know the deadrise. This is pretty simple with this tool and the boat out of the water.
http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=34214

Check the angle on the port side bottom at the transom. Write that number down. Now do the same for the Stb side and write that number down. Add them together and divide by 2.

That's your deadrise angle. It make's no difference if the boat is not sitting level.

Then forget the transducer's you have on your list and buy one of these, depending on the angle.

be sure to check the little box on the page for Garmin.
