That will work.... You can network them, one will have to be the master, the other the slave.....What I would do is rewire so the newer 6100 is the master unit with the older 6000i as the secondary slave.

thanks for the reply , i had a lot of trouble with my 6000i and am debating going to the 6100i '' i hope is a better unit '' which would be cheaper since i now know i can use my old antennaes or just use the 6000i as a radar and back up gps and go for a raymarine as a depth and chart ?

You need to make sure your 6000i has the high software rev that is the same (numerically) as whatever the 6100i has in it or they won't "play" together on the network.

Speaking of Northstar...I turned on my 6000i yesterday and it acted as though it didn't want to "spool up" and stayed dim with the (what sounds like a cooling fan) not turned on all the way. Then moisture got onto my screen... after a few minutes it spooled up and acted fine except for the moisture.

You use the * (northstar) key to toggle to the system page if memory serves and it shows you the sw rev, normally #.## format. If you have a CF card reader and a blank CF card, you can burn the high rev off the northstar website

The problems I have experienced with my Northstar 6000i network are as long as the day. I have had to return four 15", some with lcd problems and some freeze up. The radar has also been very problematic and unreliable. It will stall and go to a blue screen indicating a stack overflow and Northstars "deepest gratitude." The screen goes onto to say Northstar will send a software update when available to correct the problem. This is a great message to receive with 1/4 mile visibility and numerous boats in the area. It seems that they are aware of these reliability issues but do nothing until the unit fails and do not notify their customers of updates. From my experiences dealing with customer service they are totally disorganized and their products are more like toys than navigation equipment.

Yeah it was customer-NO-service for me too
