Default 3 Bank Battery Charger

I am looking for an inexpensive pre-wired 3 bank fully automatic safe on-board charger

There is this ProSport for 169

http://www.basspro.com/servlet/catal...c-5839ed2542f1

or this Bass pro for 129

http://www.basspro.com/servlet/catal...mCat=CROSSSELL

Any advice - anyone have either one?

Thanks

Bob

I have one very similar to the top one aand made by the same company - a promariner tournament 300 that charges my 4 batts...- it is on 24/7 whenever the boat is in dock - going on 2 years and never a problem...

I just replaced my Guest 3 bank with a Dual Pro 3 bank SE. I paid around $280. I don't know what you consider inexpensive though.

I have the Dual Pro E on my Grady... one of its charging banks went out last year and I called the factory to find where I could buy a new one. They sent me a new one free of charge, my unit was 4 years old. I was really impressed with these guys. Totally was not expecting a FREE new unit.

I have the Guest Sportsman Power Center. It cost more than the ones you are looking to buy. Mine has higher power, which will make charging much faster. I like mine, but I did have a problem because of using it. These chargers are to be plugged into AC power. There is no galvanic isolator like you have with true shore power. If you leave your boat in water and leave this plugged in, you will have problems with stray current eating your metal. I now unplug this after the batteries are charged.

Thanks to all and Merry Christmas

I ordered so many things a few days back I forgot. I htink I got a Min-Kota cause the pro sport was out of stock . It seemed they all had one real bad review and one real good one, I assume its an infant mortality issue but all mfgrs seem to stand by their stuff for a year or 2 anyway. I do remember it was about 110 bucks with a mfgrs rebate and the 3 lowest priced 3 bank chargers were all priced about the same. Thanks for all the advice . I'll repost here after we have some experience with it. I have a guest on my Carver and its lasted 19 years!!! But as I remember it was a few bucks more than this .....

I am new to this stuff, if I purchase an on board charger will it charge both my batteries as i am cruising? Or will it only charge for me when I have it plugged in at home. I was having some problem's keeping my chartplotter going, i guess cause of cheap batteries. I would really like to straighten it out for this year. My set up is lowrance 111 Hd with electric chum grinder, flood lights and I put in a wash down kit. I just bought two AGM batteries group size 27 and would like some way to charge them.

your motors should charge the batts while running
a batt charger charges the batts hooked up to 110 ac at home

you need a 2 bank batt charger - promariner makes good ones - google it...

...and an on board charger will not help you keep the chartplotter going any betetr onder way. You have some other problem. I would think a properly or even average running alternator battery configuration should be able to power it very easily. Check ALL connections first - should be clean and tight
