Default Formatting old Navionics Navchart card as a data card????

Just updated my 2004 Navionics Navchart card for my Furuno 1850 with the 2006 version and wonder if I can format the old card and use it as a data card? It's a lot cheaper than buying the PC-Planne from C-Map (any other options here?) or buying a Furuno data card. OR is the card "Read-only" and there are no data card readers that can access the data?

Thanks...

I'm not sure but I think you can return your old card to Navionics for a $75 refund. I picked up a couple blank data cards on ebay for about $5 each. I think West marine has the return forms for the card. The cards are not typically read only and you should be able to format the card in just about any card reader. Good luck.

Well, no &75 refund. More like a $25 rebate on an upgrade.

I just got this email:
Dear Sir:

Thank you for contacting Navionics. The Navionics Fish'N Chip is a free chart which is available with the purchase of a 2006 Gold+ chart. The Fish'N Chip includes high-definition offshore bathymetric chart for the same XL3 coverage area as your Gold+ chart.

In looking at the photo you so graciously provided, I notice the code number on your chart is actually a 2005 XL3 code number. In that case you can trade-in your older Navionics chart for the more updated information. If you don't need a chart right away, you may want to wait until our new 2007 updates become available in January or February of next year. The updated Gold+ chart will also include the Free Fish'N Chip offer. For more information on the Trade-In & Update Program go to: http://www.navionics.com/TradeInProgram.asp

If you need additional information, please do not hesitate to ask or contact our Customer Service Department direct at 1-800-848-5896 for assistance.

Best regards,

Scott Costa
