Default Do you have a list of all the safety equipment I need to legally Commercail Tuna fish

I have been unable to find a list I can make sense of. Can you put together a list of the safety gear required for a state numbered vessel to commercail fish up to say 50 miles from shore. Thanks

Default Regs

As a state registered licensed boater your minimum requirements are a USCG approved IBA (Inflatable Buoyant Apparatus) which you can fish as far out as you like. An IBA is a platform with two tubes and no canopy. Had you been documented you would be required to carry a USCG approved SOLAS B pack for inside 50 miles, only comes in a canister and must be mounted with cradle & hydrostatic release. Many small boaters cannot afford the space to mount a USCG approved SOLAS pack canister and cradle so they must carry a valise. The USCG approved Coastal units do have a canopy and are essentially the same rafts as the SOLAS minus much of the equipment and can be packed in a valise. You will need a 3-50 mile flare kit, PFD’s for all POB, an EPIRB (standard 406mz or with GPS), Survival Suits for months other than July or August and a throwable flotation device. The new, 2009 edition of the U.S. Coast Guard's 40-page pamphlet Federal Requirements For Commercial Fishing Industry Vessels is now available to download from AMSEA's website. Check out this and other useful, educational publications on AMSEA's Downloads page at www.amsea.org/downloads.html.
E-mail me at briank@lrse.com for quotes or spec sheets. Thank you, Brian Kinsella

Default Parachute Flares

You are required to carry 3 SOLAS Parachute flares.

Went to C. G. station and requested Com . fishing boat req. no luck
Stopped at West Marine. When asked if there was anything else i needed, out of the blue i said yea. I need a book telling me what I need for safety equipment on a commercial fishing boat.
She turned and oppened a cabinet and handed me a coppy . (FEDERAL REQUIREMENTS FOR COMMERTIAL FISHING INDUSTRY VESSELS ).
There are two, the thicker one has more info.
Evidently C. G. stations do not have them

Default USCG Requirements

I have a copy of the smaller book with the Red cover. You can e-mail me and I can send anyone PDF attachments by e-mail at briank@lrse.com . Please tell me what kind of fishing you plan to do so I can send the appropriate pages to keep the file size down. Thank you, Brian
