Default Safety - Multiple Rescues 4/15

Marco Island and Collier Sheriff Marine were busy yesterday afternoon. Multiple people rescued on Kayak / SUP attempting to cross Caxambas Pass on outgoing tide. All safe thanks to alert residents in towers and quick emergency response.

#1 PFD
#2 handheld VHF
#3 plan your launch and route according to tides

I can not stress enough how lucky everyone was, the tide rips through the pass and the distance they drifted in a short time was a real eye opener. They got very small very quickly even through binoculars from 6 floors up. I was just able to make out one kayaker raising an orange paddle. I called 911 just as several other alert residents did and a one in a neighboring tower raised CG on 16. Could have had a different ending.
Be safe, be prepared.
