SIRIUS Marine Weather (SMW) units that have the SIRIUS Satellite Radio (SSR) subscription added are a convenient way to add SIRIUS Satellite Radio programming to your vessel. Unfortunately, this method only passes the stereo audio signal via 3.5mm audio jack and must be connected to a stereo via auxiliary input (same as connecting a MP3 player). SIRIUS Marine Weather units do not have the ability to send the dedicated SIRIUS Satellite Radio data/audio signals to SIRIUS Ready radios. This is the same with all current hardware; changing brands of stereos will not provide a solution to control the SIRIUS Satellite Radio function as the SIRIUS Marine Weather interface module does not have this capability. It does appear that the Lowrance Sonic Hub is an alternate option to a traditional marine stereo system that integrates both SIRIUS services with the Lowrance HDS units.
If you want to have SIRIUS Satellite Radio control via the SIRIUS Ready radio, then you must install a traditional SIRIUS radio tuner and SIRIUS Marine radio antenna. Using this method will give you the full benefit of having a SIRIUS Ready radio (full control via radio and optional wired remotes, better sound quality as well as channel/song/artist info on the radio display).
As the subscriptions are separate for both SIRIUS Marine Weather & SIRIUS Satellite Radio service (*excluding the Voyager plan), you would just need to activate the SIRIUS Marine Weather unit without the SIRIUS Satellite Radio option.
