Heading out for a little evening/night fishing tomorrow. If the seas are calm we might try to get some snapper... if not, we'll be either in one of the passes fishing for Redfish or around the island looking for trout. Look for the boat in my siggy. Only difference is that it sports some decals on the sides... "DREAD NUTS". My brother in law will be in a Kirkland boat with "Cracked Up" on the sides. If anyone heads out I'll be on channel 17. Give me a shout!
Shep--Good luck. I heard the big trout are still stacked up on the gulf side of East Timb. rocks.
Gmack--Congrats on the GI Tarpon Rodeo showing! Great article you wrote here on it. My Dad and I often fish offshore out of Cameron, and see Mangroves often, but rarely catch any. Any pointers you care to share???
That's pretty much everything you need to know. Live bait does work really well, but we catch them on cut bait too. You just have to scale down your tackle. We also loose alot of fish when the tackle gets light, but I rather have the action than horse every fish in. If you have any specific questions give me a call or email.
Gmack, I'm sorry... didn't see your post before I left the house.
CB, we brought bait to fish pretty much trout or snapper. We opted for the snapper because the conditions were pretty good for us to go out. Went out 8 miles, put the chum churn out and caught 5 mangroves within an hour. A redfish decides to bite my line and somehow that line gets hung up between my boat and the chum churn knocking it off the rod holder. I ask my son to get the chum churn but he must have thought I said net the fish... when he came to his senses he reached to get the chum churn which was about an inch from his fingers when the redfish splashed him... needless to say it scared him and he jumped away from both. I couldn't reach down fast enough to get it before it went down. So... just purchased another chum churn and plan on having a "safety line" put on it to prevent that from happening again. Trip pretty much sucked after that. Caught a bunch of trash and redfish... couldn't get the snapper biting again.

i donated three of them before i quit being hardheaded and tethered churn #4. i also put the velcro strap i use to tie it to my t-top on my steering wheel to remind me not to put the hammer down with it still hanging off the gunwale

That is nice to get a call about your camp from the sheriff's office. I wish I could go to my camp ... it is in Hopedale and it is the only building with a roof left down there but you can see though the building and that is leaning . I still go out though and bring my kids, . That is what it is all about!
