Default opening day

No great reports for opening day for me. We fished a bunch of spots and just could not get into the snapper bite, only sharks. Did come home with one cobia though so that helped my spirits. Talked to a couple other boats that did not do very good with snapper either. Any differing reports from this area?

We fished the East side of the Mississippi out of Venice on Friday. We bounced around 7 or 8 places and finally got into a hot snapper bite. It wasn't looking very good until we hit that last rig. The trip would have been excellent if only the fuel pump on the port engine hadn't gone out as we were calling it a day and preparing to head in. We started back to the dock at 2:30 pm and arrived at Venice Marina a little after 9:30 pm.

We fished East of Venice Friday and Saturday as well. Bounced around a little Friday finding all the average snapper we wanted and stopped 4 short of a limit trying to find some big sows in deeper water. AJs were so thick everywhere else, it was nearly impossible to get to the bottom for snapper. After topping the boxes off with some huge AJs, we headed in for mangroves only to find a ripping current and dirty water. Headed out again Saturday morning and put a 5 man limit of snapper in the boat in about an hour. Big fish of the morning was around 20 lbs with several others around 10. Made the run to deeper water and found the grouper hungry and agressive. Landed 1 scamp around 12 lbs, 3 gags from 12-15 lbs, and 1 AJ around 50 with in about an hour. Also broke off a few big bites in the rig. We decided we had more than enough fish and made it back to Venice marina for noon. All in all, not a bad trip. I'll try to post pics later.

Fished today--had limit by 8 am--no kidding--never seen snapper school up like I saw, literally thousands and they were just behind the boat. We didn't even chum they were STARVING!! Every rig we went to was loaded. No big ones though, best was @ 8#s

Fished the West Delta area on Saturday, due to having to run some smokes out to someone in the area. Wanted to go east, but work called. Had a 3 man limit of snapper and one gag. Nothing big, but had a good time. Probably caught 50 juvenile snappers, keeping a 3 man limit of 18"- 20" red ones. Gag went about 10lbs.

Going to the "mullet toss" in Gulf Shores at Florabama this weekend. Pulling the boat and will try some sight fishing for cobia on the beach. Has the migration started?

Caught 5 ling last wednesday. Lost a few more. The ones we found were finicky & didn't want to eat. Didn't hear of any good snapper reports.
