Default Fourchon Updates ??

Anybody been down to Fourchon in the last week or so? I'm curious about the condition of the public boat launch. Is the pavilion still there? Is there still operable facilities at the public launch? I'm going fishing next weekend (10/8-9/05) and wasn't sure where the best place to launch would be. Looking at either Fourchon or Cocodrie area, but I think Cocodrie still might be having issues. Any info would be great.

Pretty close. The boat is almost 10' feet wide, it helps to displace a whole lot more water. The water line rides along the bottom edge of the stripe. The loaded weight of the boat without people is about 7500 lbs. It has about 24" of freeboard at the stearn and about 44" at the bow when at rest. Not sure how we gonna wrestle that 200 lbs. tuna into the boat without a door, but We'll come up with something. And welcome to TheHullTruth. I think you will like it here.

Pooldoo......

You shouldn't have any problems at the Fourchon public launch. The metal roof is still there. The wharfs are messed up, but you should be able to launch and pick up with out much problems since the big/wide launch with the cement slab is not messed up. I would bring ice and other such supplies from your home town. The stores that are open may be short on ice/food items/etc.

My younger brother was doing some clean up work on Grand Isle last Thursday 9-29-05. The flooding that occured during Rita was not as bad as Katrina in his opinion.

I made a run to Point Aux Chene WMA this weekend to check on the areas we duck hunt. Ran to Lake Bully Camp, Sulfer Mine, etc. The marsh is really getting torn up there. Not sure if it was from the storms are just errosion in general. Places I hunted 4-5 years ago are wide open lakes now! It really brings me down seeing so much of our land lost.

Is your boat a Stamas? Has the looks of an older 24' stamas.......did I get it right?

Your just about right on the money. It's a 26' Stamas. and your right about it being older. 1969 to be exact.

I did not stop in fourchon but did go to Grand Isle over the weekend. The people that live next to our camp said that it would be 2 weeks before electricty would be back on, water has to be barged in because the waterline from leeville is out of service and questions about gas got a laugh! If you go, I would suggest that you bring everything you need with you. The only good news is that its not very crowded.
