Default Relocating

Hello,

Looks like i will be relocating from the Chesapeake Bay area to the Louisianna area (Slidell) for work. I am an avid fisherman. I am generally excited about moving to an area in which i can fish practically year round. I mainly fish offshore (tuna, shark, etc..) but love inshore also. I love fishing for a variety of fish any size, shape and color. With fishing being a large part of my life i want to move to an area that allows me to fish as often as possible. I currently live on the water in Maryland and would like to continue to live on the water when i move. Since i will be working in the Slidell area i was looking at housing as far out as Gulfport. I currently trailer my offshore boat (25' cat) about 2 hours to get to the ocean. I am currently waiting for delivery of a new Triton 2690 WA that i plan to trailer. A two hour ride to get the boat wet is about as far as i want to go. I also have a flats boat that i keep in the water so i can fish around my home at a moments notice.

My quesion is:

1. What area would you recommend i search for a house that would allow me to live on the water and still be somewhat close to getting offshore and work. My price range would be up to half a million.

Thanks in Advance!
JC

welcome!

i live in mandeville (20 miles west) and it's a better place than slidell to live in my opinion; living on the water would be limited to river frontage, but most of these flow into the lake...the ones around bayou castine & bayou lacombe are very, very nice. you should have NOOO problem with that budget!

to get offshore (venice) it's 2.5 hrs door to marina from my house trailering a boat. from slidell, you'd get there 30 minutes sooner. THT member ringleader lives on a lakefront development in slidell, he'd have more info about that area

welcome again...

You may want to look at the Diamondhead area. It's a nice development and is only about 20 minutes from Stennis. You could live on the water and have easy access to the Jordan River/Bay St. Louis/Mississippi Sound. They have their own marina if I'm not mistaken. The areas around Pass Christian, Bay St. Louis and Waveland are another option. As far as fishing, I personally think the Mississippi Gulf Coast is one of the best kept secrets in the country. Our barrier islands are truly jewels. I'm an avid wade fisherman so I suppose I may have a biased view. I can leave work at 4 in the afternoon and be fishing before 5. On the other hand, reaching bluewater from our area often requires an 80 or 90 mile boat ride. That's one way. Even reaching water deep enough for red snapper requires around 40 miles. Several of my friends make the trip to the Ram Powell area for bluewater and it is quite a long run. Driving to launch from Venice, LA is certainly a shorter boat ride and you will have a lot more offshore fishing options. I could go on and on talking about fishing mostly because our best speckled trout wadefishing time is only 2 or 3 weeks away and I'm getting stir crazy. Maybe writing about it will make the time pass quicker. You are welcome to email me for more info. You may also want to check out rodnreel.com and the Mississippi rodngun.com for fishing reports.

With a price range for housing like you have you could buy a VERY nice home in Diamondhead or Bay St. Louis and have enough left over for a condo in Venice. I have a camp in BSL and the area is just now starting a growing trend. From BSL to Slidell is about a 20 minute drive.
