Default sunroom windows

I tried this in the dockside group but did not get a response. Was wondering if some of you guys may be able to help me.

I have a metal addition currently a screened in porch.

I have seen windows on similar additions that appear to basically be storm window but rather than using glass they use an extremely thick vinyl product - similar to curtains on the boat - the results are nice for the seasons here in NC.....makes the room usable on most winter days with a little electric heater.

I am not trying to make the room 100% usable with heat/air etc. Just trying to make it tolerable on most cool afternoons and evenings.

During storms the window is removed completely in order to avoid damage to the vinyl

I was wondering if any of you Florida guys would know where I could buy some of these windows. I cannot seem to find anyone locally that is familiar with where they could be purchased.

thanks in advance!

If you're handy with hand tools, you could make your own.

I've seen rolls of the clear and the tinted sheet vinyl at the fabric store. Not the super heavy stuff, but highly flexable and cut to the lengths you need. I cannot say if that's the long-lasting, UV-treated window material that you'd want to put on a boat, but it's cheap. I want to say that they had clear in two thicknesses, yellow, green and smoke tinted rolls.

Then use a screen frames from the hardware store, but instead of installing screen, you'd install the vinyl stuff. Standard screen spline ought to hold it.

Around here you have to get a building permit to do anything...and most of that kind of stuff has specifications for windload and engineering approval codes and on and on.....

If you have a strict buiding department....you may want to check before you buy......

just a suggestion

My parents, in Bradenton, Fl has those installed right before the hurricane season. The windows sustained steady 40mph winds without damage. If you still need, I can call them and see what info they have.
