Default Alabama boat registration

I am looking at purchasing a boat in Alabama. Seller tells me that they don't have titles on boats in Alabama. (22' cc) Not sure if it is a size thing, but want to see if this is accurate. If I take a bill of sale and a purchase agreement to my Secretary of State office (in Michigan) that will be enough for me to title the boat, but just want to make sure this is accurate.

Thanks,

Jason

any boat with a motor has to be registered. you do not need a title certificate to register in Alabama.

http://www.dmv.org/al-alabama/boat-registration.php

registration will list the owner. ask to see the registration before you buy and make sure the names are the same on all documents. Carry a copy with you to register at home

Agree...In fact, Alabama doesn't offer a "Title" for vessel ownership.

My last boat came out of Alabama and it was concerned about this same issue. 38 ft boat, 5 years ago and ended up being nothing to worry about. Apparently my state had info to see what each state would issue and verified no title existed.

Thanks for the offer, but I will go down and check it out and bring it home. It will be a long quick trip, but hard to not go myself. Plus I want to check out the oil spill first hand to say I saw it. Devastating, but if I can drop a few nickels there it may help some folks.

Default won't be this weekend

It won't be this weekend for sure but probably the following. Are there any fishing ops in the Gulf out of Mobile/Gulf Shores at this point? Would love to wet a line if someone has the time to show me around.

The only fishing I am aware of is west of LA or east of Panama City, FL. Anyone else know for sure? Can you fish in Florida state waters out to 12 miles???

Default fishing

Just talked with the seller, and it appears even a sea trial may be challenging. Apparently many of the ramps around Mobile are even closed. Looks like it's going to be a quick run now anyway.
