Default Houston (South) area mechanic/dealer

I am getting ready to buy a used boat. I am looking at one that has no motors meaning I get to outfit it as I want. :D

I am looking for a good marine mechanic and/or trustworthy dealer in the Houston area or S of Houston (288 towards Freeport)

I had a dealer I thought I had built a repoir with and trusted but I recently found his advice to be misleading and all about him making a sale as opposed to me getting what I am looking for. No names... I am just looking for someone new.

So who is out there that will do a good job and will give me a good deal at the same time and is honest?

Probably Finish Line is what you are looking for and will be close to what you want. When you find one with all those qualities look again.

Sorry... the boat will be for fishing. 25-30'* So I am looking at twin high power outboards. Proabably Evinrude or Yamis.

I have had good luck with Calvins Marine in Clute and if you really want someone who will not BS you, go to Busha's Marine in Bay City.

I've been very happy with North Shore Marine ( I-10 EAST and Beltway 8 ) and they are an Evinrude dealer. They have sold me engines and have worked on three different boats over the recent years.

They do NOT sell big boats, so there won't be a conflict with you buying your boat elsewhere and having them install the engines. Talk to Mark and tell him I said " HI " from Wisconsin.

One of the most honest dealers I have delt with is Freddie Lester of Red Wing Boats. Family run busines. I have bought a couple of boats and trailers from this guy. He will work with you and shoot straight. He will tell you what your boat needs and leaves it to you. Always willing to help or answer questions. They are on S.75 street between Lawndale and Griggs Rd.

A good friend of mine swears by Red Wing but I got a bad taste in my mouth from them when they tried*to stear me wrong on a boat deal.

Kenny at Laser marine - he seems to be a good guy. I almost bought a boat from him. He seems to know his stuff and is not hell bent on selling.**

I know Kenny and he is a good guy. Look at Capt Kevins boat for sale on this forum. Seems like a low cost, well taken care of boat. Not as fancy as Donzi, etc, but I suspect it is in good mechanical condition.

Who would you recommend out of Finish Line or John Meeks?
I live a mile or so from Finish line but I was given a very high recommendation for John Meeks (15 miles or so). Power 70hp yamaha.

Thanks!

I know both and would use either one. Check their work load and price.

When I had an unusual problem with my Yamaha and the dealer's mechanic couldn't help, they sent me to John Meeks on Lawrence St in Kemah, said he new more about Yamaha' than anyone in the area.

I bought a 115 Johnson from Mark at Northshore in 1999. They did a good job on rigging and maintenance later. Good people to work with.

In the Freeport Area, I have had good luck with Calvin Marine. They get pretty busy come spring so call ahead and make sure they can take another boat. Here is there website: http://www.reliabilitymall.com/membe...ins_marine.htm
