Default 1994 60HP Merc?..............good, bad, ugly???.......

I need a little advice. I am considering buying a 60HP 1994 Mercury Tracker engine to put on a wooden 'project boat' that I'm building. I don't want to drop a ton on an engine, and a friend is selling that engine for cheap.

I plan to put it on an 18' Atchafalaya Wooden Lake Skiff that I am building in Louisiana and it should fit that application well.

The owner claims this engine has less than 50 hours on it, and by the looks of it, I don't doubt him. Can anyone give me any guidance, opinions, or experience with this engine? Does anyone know the history/evolution of this engine from Mercury?

I've always been a bit leary of Mercs, but I understand the 1990's era 2-stroke's were solid engines. I appreciate any and all opinions. Thanks in advance.
