Default Gulf out of Venice this weekend?

Anybody going? I'm hoping the seas are short so we can head out.

Any prediction for the wave height for Sat & Sun? So far looks pretty good.

Well, we're going to GI Friday night and if we can get out in the am we go. If not, we might just have to fish inshore. Hopefully we can get out there Sat and spend the night, but I'm not expecting to be able to.

I use Impact Weather and Wilkens Weather services. Today doesn't look bad. Saturday is looking like 6-8s now and Sunday is looking like 2-4 in the morning going to 0-2 in the afternoon.

You must be looking at a different forecast than me. Looks like its gonna get better as the day goes on. We'll be headed out around 3 am sunday morning.

Sun until noon 2-4
Sunday after noon 4-6
Per Wilkens Weather

Reefcast is showing better though 2-4 all day....hope it ends up being that way for you guys.....good luck!

JJ,

What Grouper season is open right now I know Gag is closed but what about Scamps and other deepwater Grouper? Reading the NMFS regs is like reading an insurance policy, sketchy to say the least.....

Well, the report is not good. We listened to the broadcasts Sat and they said winds and seas declining through the night and better on Sunday. We headed out Sat afternoon, going to WD143 and the lump for a try. The trip out was a bit bumpy, but not too bad. The swells were pretty big but no trouble. We got to 143 about an hour after sunndown and tried poppers and jigs and only pulled up a small bonita and a snapper. We opened our box of porgies to discover that we had a box of squid. Not a good start to the night. We moved over to the lump, got anchored, started chumming with squid, and began fishing. The wind picked up to a stiff breeze and the chop right along with it. We didn't find out what it was. The swells built to what looked like at least 8' and the 2-4 chop on top of that. We were a bit cold, so tense, and having to hold on most of the time. we got one hook up and that was it. We decided to head in at midnight because the weather was getting worse. Neither we nor the other boat with us could travel on plane because of the seas so we had a LONG hard ride in. It took us 7 hrs to get back to GI. Needless to say, I went right to bed for a nap.
Oh, we didn't see any other boats out there except one strange boat at 143 as we were leaving.
