Random Quote: work is for those who don't know how to fish
the jetties usually have fish you could try a couple miles offshore to a couple of the wrecks and try for flounder caught about offshore not too long ago and the hathaway bridge is usually loaded with white trout this time of year
I've seen a few tackle shops that rent equipment. True, its not going to be top quality but it could be easier to rent for a day or two than lug all your stuff around for the whole trip. Not sure if there's even anywhere in P.C. that does this but may be worth calling around.
might have some luck along the jetty at the state park. Possibly. Its been a few years since i've fished that area. I've got a buddy that lives there so i'll talk to him and see where he's fishing right now.
Go to bigbendfishing.net and look for posts. Or join and ask the question there. Most of the reports are for the big bend area, but occassionally some are from St Andrews. One of the mods fishes there some. Its always worth it to take tackle when you are going to be near water for 2 weeks. Ask the locals - as mentioned earlier - when you get there. I'd rather take it and never use it than want it and not have it.
JP, if you have access to a boat, there are plenty of sheephead off of the rocks in the pass. You have to anchor practically on the rocks and let your shrimp drop off into the current. Be ready to go through some bait. There are some flounder on the inshore wrecks, but the snapper are so thick, I've given up. If you just want to bend a rod there are a ton of public numbers available at half hitch on thomas drive and the snapper are so thick you can walk on them. I wouldn't use a bait under 10 inches to keep the little ones away.
I guess I'd sum the situation around here by saying there aren't many triggers over 12", and the limit is 14". Snapper, grouper, and ajs are out of season. The trout are holed up in crazy places. Kings, spanish, and cobes are not here yet. Reds are around if you know what you're doing. If you call white trout fish, there are tons under the hathaway.
If I had to put someone on some meat, the pass would be the ticket for the occasional red and pompano with a lot of sheeps. If I just needed to bend a rod, I'd catch some big pigs, choffer, or croaker and head about 5 miles out to the hovercraft, black bart, warsaw, or a bridge span.
Good luck, I'd take you but I'm swamped with work.
