Do any of you folks fish Mobile Bay? I am about to buy a new boat and am thinking of fishing the rigs in the bay. I will be launching at Pelican Point. Any suggestions?
Weeks Bay, Fish River ( above the old LuLu's), West of Sail Boat Bay (marker #9), any of the rigs towards Ft. Morgan, Dixie Bar, Oyster bed East of Big Mouth.
The bay rigs are a great place for Specks, Redfish, and White Trout in large numbers from now until October. Typically start with live shrimp to get started and find the fish, then try artificial once you find them. Or stay with live shrimp the whole time if you like. Enjoy!
Thanks for the tips. I have not been fishing much the last few years, but am taking a boat out for a test this weekend. The fishing boat fever has bitten pretty hard. I know this is probably the worst time to be buying, but I will probably go ahead and buy in the next week or two. Thanks again.
It's been a while since I was over that way. I often fished the bay rigs at night. White trout action was non-stop. It's normally a lot cooler and calmer at night too. Very serene and un-crowded.
A little up-date. I got my boat Thursday (175 RG Sea Chaser by Carolina Skiff) and now have the fun of out-fitting. Not really that much to add with this boat. Already have all the CC safety gear, just adding an anchor and a few odds and ends. Hope to put the registration on today and take a little trip on Mobile Bay tomorrow. I will have to get used to getting places a little quicker than in my sailboat. Thanks again for the tips on fishing locations.
