what are you buying? sold the seahunt?
if buying new you'll pay the applicable sales tax in whatever parish you buy in
tell the dealer you are going to register in texas and he may be able to get the paperwork started for you

if used, obviously no taxes here, but there may be in texas

if new and taking to texas you dont have to pay the sales tax
in LA. Been there done that. saved me mucho mulla. you will have
to pay the sales taxin texas however. check to see which rate is lower
but i suspect it will be lower outside LA

Texas titles boats and outboard motors separately. So, you will need to do the paperwork to get a boat title and any outboards on the boat. The trailer is not titled but you will have to show a receipt and capacity statement to register the trailer and get a license plate. If bought in Texas, there will be sales tax. I have moved a boat to Texas from out of state once and there are no sales taxes, unless the rules have changed since 1990.

Whatcha gettin?

I almost did a deal on a boat in LA last year, but it got sold out from under me. I might have mentioned it to you.

Anyway, this link has just about everything you need- http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/boat/title.phtml#outofstate

You'll pay sales tax in TX only, & in additional to everything listed in the above link, you'll need a bill of sale. Probably best to do one bill of sale for the boat & motor, & a seperate one for the trailer since you have to register the trailer with TXDOT as you would a car.

To register the trailer, you just need the bill of sale & a standard title app.

This brings up an interesting topic - what are the sales taxes on boats like in each of the different Gulf states?

TX is 6.25% for boats & outboards.

Talk to the dealer about your options. I bought a boat (new) in AL and brought back to TX. I paid the AL taxes and when registering in TX paid the difference between TX and AL taxes to TX. I also had the option to not pay AL taxes (with proof from out of state) and pay TX taxes when registering. Like stated above make sure proof of purchase has everything broken down price for boat, price for motor, and price for trailer. I believe there are a few documents the LA dealer will need to sign as well, these can be downloaded from TP&W website. http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/boat/

lump is off in the summer...just sharks and kings, and you need a whole lotta anchor line...

the tuna fleet has been fishing the rip and the floaters out of south pass
the rip seems to be somewhere about 20 miles out of south pass, and the floaters are several miles south of that...easy runs for that 27

check out the offshore/bluewater fishing reports at http://www.rodnreel.com/ as we get closer...charlie is definitely biting right now, alond with dolphin, wahoo and billfish

from my house, we can be in venice in 2.5 hrs

AGULHAS

Just wondering, about the dealer thing. I bought a CH in Hammond from Boat City. They are located right next to I-12 in Hammond. Mid City is/was in Harahan or Metairie just outside of New Oleans. Did Mid City open a second dealership?

Can I go on the ride too? I am a fellow Cape Horn owner.

Man I bet you is happy.

Also my son worked for La. Dept of Public Safety, Texas and La. have a recipricle agreement, the dealer can collect Tx. tax and registration and handle all paper work. Don't know if that dealer will do it, but it is possible to have all paper work done at the dealer.

twenty nine you are correct - i think i got my locations mixed up. more than welcome to join us. first they need to get the boat in. what kind of dog is elmo? looks like he's quarding the boat or the bait. we used to take our dog offshore in south africa and he would bark at the seals and try to jump in with them.

Elmo is 4.9 pounds of raging furrie fury. Actually Elmo is a Chiuahua. He doesn't really do to well in the boat when we are out in it, trying to get him to come around. He does like to run around the boat while it is under the carport and I am working in it.

I bought my boat from Boat City in Hammond, I didn't have any problems with them. Had one small minor repair to the fuel tank level sending unit, they handled it very well. Other than that one little problem the Capehorn has been fantastic. The only problem I have had is just not enough time to go fishing as often as I like.
