I've got a camper at La France, at the mouth of the Pearl, on the MS-LA line.

Should I go get it?

Good boat and value - think of the boat like a Chevrolet. Comes with ten year hull warranty, hardware is middle of the road. My boat has so many upgrades and modifications I don't think it is a Chevrolet any more. I have upgraded the electrical, lots of hardware and loaded the boat with electronics. The key word here is UPGRADED not fixed.

It is a very dry boat, however it can beat you up a little in 3+ footers - just slow down. Factory needs to install cup holders. You can actually get a good night sleep with two adults in the cabin - lots of room with the wall to wall cushion inserts.

Most folks in Georgia are not familiar with Seaswirls..

I guess I better cancel my trip to petronis this afternoon. I am starting to question my decision of just purchasing a condo on Fort morgan? Oh well, life is a gamble.

This storm was a lot stronger that we predicted. Yesterday we expereinced 117 knot gusts with 100 knot sustained winds in Mississippi Canyon Block 727.

Nope, good decision, in a few years I am going to live there. Hurricanes ? part of life, like where I live now, we had a f5 tornado a few years back, along with numerous smaller ones. Others deal with forest/brush fires, crossfire from gang shootings, coal trucks, etc,,

You had better try and buy now if possible. There were a couple of great deals where I bought until a month ago and everything was bought up. There are still deals out there but this wont last much longer.

BaySlayer: sorry I'm looking at this late. I've got a camp in that area so I shared your concern. I rolled the dice and didn't make special preps because I figured we'd be on the west side and get less storm surge.

In the future, you may want to check the site out below and get the water level data for the CSX bridge at the mouth of the Pearl.

http://waterdata.usgs.gov/nwis/uv?cb...01141089320300

Here's water data at St Joe's Island Light in Heron Bay:

http://waterdata.usgs.gov/ms/nwis/uv...01104089253400

If you watch that over time and then see what the National Weather Service is predicting for storm surge, you may be able to make an informed descision. Great data from the government that we all pay for!

Thanks Gulfsurfer. I too rolled the dice and didn't follow Prock's excellent advice and got lucky. Came within a foot or so of floating.

Thanks for the links!!

Water got up over the island. It was real close. My cousin was down there this morning and said we were real lucky. Water up on the tires of the camper. My Dad and one of his buddies are probably going down this weekend. We are in #6 on the island.
