So the wife and I have been with Cellular South since the inception of the cell phone. No complaints, they were very good to us after Katrina etc. The wife has a two year contract on an HTC Touch that she dislikes as it is very user unfriendly. I have a worn out RAZR and no contract. We sure would like the latest Iphones for Christmas! So lets hear it... how is the AT&T coverage on the MS gulf Coast? At&t ever buy people out of contracts? Transfer specials? What the heck is a 3 or 4 "G" network? What do you guys think. I guess I need to ask the family teenagers all this stuff. I know it's not fishing...oh well.
not sure what part of the coast you're in but i know in most of the rural areas, i.e. NW Harrison County, NE Hancock County, AT&T service is pretty bad. I did notice they just put up a new tower around the harrison/hancock county line in the north part of the county but i don't know who's tower it is or how much of a difference it'll make.
I've been mulling over the exact same thing. I had ATT up until Katrina. Switched to Cellular South two days after due to no signal with ATT. Cell South has been great and I hate to give it up. My neighbor and my sister both have Iphones here in Pass Christian. Both love the Iphone but hate the ATT service. I just can't take the plunge yet. ATT (Cingular) was terrible for me before Katrina and it doesn't really sound like its gotten any better.
Don't ditch Cellular South just yet. I saw a commercial on TV yesterday, a teaser type thing from Cellular South, saying they've got something new "coming soon" to compete with the iphone. I just switched to CS from verizon and I can tell you, there is NO comparison. Verizon sucked, and it is my understanding that ATT is similar, if not worse. The one drawback to CS is the poor selection of phones, but hopefully that will change.
PS: I had an older razr with verizon and loved the phone. Upon switching I got the new razr, it totally sucks compared to the old ones. I'm really curious about this new phone. I'll probably switch to it, or a blackberry.
I spent a lot of time out on Ship Island this summer. My old Nokia cell phone with AT&T worked when no one else could get a tower. Several friends told me that the Nokias work well offshore but the phone is very low tech. Good luck in your search.
I had Cingular for a few years til AT&T bought them out. Never any problems with Cingular on their nationwide plan. AT&T terminated my contract because most of my calls were made from outside my home area. I drive a truck so????? My cell phone wouldn't work at home but my wifes CS did fine. I told AT&T to stuff it and to terminate my home service. I thought if they didn't want my cell business piss on the landline. I've had CS for a couple of years now and actually have much better coverage in the SE than I did with AT&T.
Boomer, good information, thanks.
I was doing some reading and I may go for the new HTC Hero from CellSouth.
I have learned a little from my research ie... Android, 3G, Cell South is the largest privately owned etc.etc.etc.
UPDATE: I signed up with Cell South for another two years. I got the new HTC Hero phone that is run with the Android system. It is awesome!!!!
Cell South has a new data plan that actually is gonna save my wife and I $40 a month over what we had.
No I don't work for Cell South just updating for those that are interested.
