Default Lump season is coming up...

This sparked my curiosity since I'm not a local Venetian. What is the smallest boat you have seen at the lump? Similarly, what is the smallest boat you would take to the lump? The Paul Bernard post made me wonder how crazy people are around there.

I seen a 18' flatbottom boat and about a 21' bassboat. Crazy people out there. I wouldn't take anything less then a 21' boat that has the right safety equipment on board and a buddy boat to boot.

Seen some 18' bow riders. Ringleader had some pics of an idiot out there in an 18' bateau with 2 kids in it... young kids. Sometimes I wonder.

18' Really Old and in Pitiful Shape Bowrider. They were dead in the water so I hopped in to help them out. They had nailed plywood to the floor to shore it up and the engine was a really old 4cyl. mercruiser that was completely covered in rust. Completely stupid. But I also saw a guy out there one time in a 18'Bayboat fighting a fish....alone.

I've seen bayboats out there everytime I've been the last few years, sometimes in nasty seas. I guess they figure one of the other 150 boats out there will pick them up if they sink.

Four years ago I saw two guys in a 16 foot monarch flatboat with a 25 hp Johnson. It was Al Lindner who took a 18 foot v-style alumnium Lund last year. I've also seen a couple of guys fishing out of Kayaks out there over the last two years but they had motherships accompanying them.

Safest boat I would take out there is a 24 foot boat with twin engines and the 25 footer better be a deep v style hull.

I'd also like to point out I've been out there and felt like my boat was way too small. Seas can change fast if you are not on top of things. When things start blowing up, I pull and run.

Actually offshore jetski fishing is very popular in many places across the world. Regularly see jet skis fishing 10 to 30 miles offshore in New Zealand for Blue & Black Marlin. Those things can be pretty cool customized.

I wanted to take a 13'6" whaler out there(followed by a larger boat of course) just to say I did................I'm in a 19 Cape Horn now and hope to be able to get out there, seas permitting of course. Hopefully it will be worth the trip this year. Don't know what the deal was last year, but I saw nothing in the reports that made me want to waste the gas...........

It has been 15 year's since I have been out there and the word has certainly gotten out.. Gotta find me a buddy boat to tag along with..
