Go to the grand isle bridge the last weekend in august... all you can catch bull reds... problem is they are bad eating and once one swallows a hook enough to die, you are done fishing for the day.

That is why it is best to use circle hooks. Why kill something that is no good to eat?
This was taken a few years back when I got into a huge school out Pensacola Pass in November. Me and a buddy caught so many bulls we finally gave up after a few hours.
We were not using circle hooks. Large single hook casting spoons. Easy to remove and have yet to see a bull red swallow one so every red we released, lived. You can see the nervous water behind me in the pic. Wish I would have gotten a better pic of them when they were thrashing the water all around us.
It is a sight. I have never been in that situation since. Hope to this year.
I haven't even caught my first Red yet. Only had that one trip in the boat sao far. Been to busy to get back down. Now I have seen the Stripers busting it up here in Jackson at Ross barnett and man you tlak about fun. 8-12 pound Stripers busting up about 2 to 3 acres and all you got to do it toss a jig on a popping cork in the middle, then hold on

While I don't consider them good eating, the man I give them to thinks of them as a delicacy. With three of us catching non-stop, a solid four hours can be had before you get three that are injured. By that time, it's time to run offshore for sunrise anyway.
Redfish are excellent grilled/blackened. One of my all time favorites.
The larger ones aren't as good, I've heard.
here in FL they must be 17"-27" to keep so I have never tried the larger.
we got 2 the weekend before last that measured 44 and 41 inches fishing the buoys next to ship jigging for Cobia. got a few more in the 30s also but had to release them due to being south of the fed. water line at the time of catch. we got the bigget reds on the way in so we got to keep em

I'm thinking about getting a boat. Looking for 14 to 16 ft with 15 to 25 motor. Used to have a 14ft when I lived in Natchez. Lots of places to fish there. How about here. I live very near the Rez. I'm 61 yrs old & don't want to over buy. Looking at a 16 Bass T. What do you think?

Yeah, I'll eat small redfish all day ever day, the big ones have worms, are hard as hell to clean, and the meat is sub-par. BUT the fight is awesome fun.

16 Bass T would be ideal for the Rez. I love to pull big slabs from the stumps below Hwy 43 in the spring.
that fish MY HOME LAKE. LOL I live 2 miles form THE REZ and live for Crappie. I live near the Lake Harbour and Pear Orchard intersection. LOL BTW, the crappie on the rez are just starting the fall bite and wish I could try them this weekend but I have a fruit Jar Saturday and the Championship round Sunday at Grenada for Crappie.
I'll sell ya next spring. I'm gonna recover the seats and touch up the paint job this winter to sell next spring. It's a 1999 model with a 120 that runs great on the back (will do 55 MPH). Has a trolling motor and pedistal seat on the front. I got my bay boat and need to sell the Nitro. It HAS CAUGHT a bunch of fish on the rez over the last 5 years, promise ya that.
I always loved the Ross Barnett. When I was a kid my Dad's twin brother lived just off Beasley Road in north Jackson, within spitting distance of Callaway High School. He had two boys my age and we would go up there and stay with them for a few days 3-4 times a year. Man we would have a blast. That was forty years ago, my uncle has long since moved back home. My Dad and I still make it back up there quite a few times a year though.

Lotsa great memories growing up in Jackson. Spent many a weekend at Camelia Bay at the rez, throwin' that frisbee and have a few cold ones.
The place was packed with teenagers and we allways had a great time.
