Default TX Residents: Question on Boat Registration

Here's the deal. I'm buying a used boat from a dealer in Florida and am going to be registering it here in TX.

1. The dealer wants me to pay the Florida tax and says that I will not have to repay TX tax when I register it here. Is that true?

2. If that's true, does TX tax you on boat, motor, and trailer? Or just the hull?

3. And honestly, would TX tax me at all, regardless of if I paid tax in Florida or not?

I'm sure there's a website out there that will tell me all of this, and I'll find it, but want to get the opinions from you guys on the "best" way to do this as well as any problems you all have ran into.

It's funny, I spent 10 years in MS registering over 15 boats and learning all the rules. Now I'm in TX and feel completely lost on this...

Thanks for any help! Ben

Answers as follows

1. do not pay FL taxes as you will end up paying taxes in TX on difference. as the old saying goes if you over pay in one state a refund will be long time in coming.

2. In Texas you title the Hull, outboard, and trailer all are taxed accordingly

3.As soon as your request TX numbers you bet they will.

put this in your favorites.
