This is the Grand Isle side of the old bridge. About 150’ of the old span burnt on Friday night. From what I understand, water would not put out the creosote and tar that was burning. It would have taken some kind of chemical to put it out. They think it may have been electrical (lights were installed when the bridge was redone last year) that started the fire.
WOW, that's a shame for the local non-boat fishermen.. Remember folks, make sure you go under the bridge where the marker lights are... I guarantee the debris and old pilon will not be removed, marked, or lighted in Louisiana.
That is a lot more than 150 feet. Each span is probably 30+ feet.
