Reading that story is humorous. Sounds like "Jason", it just keeps coming back. The writer sure tried to build the story up as well.

Conger eel.....they were attacked by a juvenile. Imagine if it would have been the size of the one below.

Now that looks like a 100lb eel. The one he is holding would be lucky to go 25lbs. Gills remind me of a Cobe.

I agree, there is no way that thing is 100lbs. What's the date of the article? This has the feeling of an April Fools prank to me.

We get Conger eels up here no where near that size. They are also known as "Ocean pout"

Now that I see your pic, I have caught a few of those myself. I was wondering why they chased us around the boat when we got them off the hook

It sort of resembles a Wolf Fish we get them up here in deep cold water while cod fishing. Ugly sucker. But supposedly good eating.

I've picked up few conger eels on the wrecks off NJ. The biggest one I have ever seen was maybe 2 feet long caught on the North Star out of Ocean City, NJ. They are always pretty aggressive animals but a small fish bat works well.

Some people do eat them.

It looks like a king snake eel to me.
We catch quite a few of them when we bottom fish between 300 and 700 ft of water. The one the guy is holding above was only 30 lbs. if I'm not mistaken. Oh yeah and they are mean as hell. Weve put them on ice and had them come back to life at the dock.

Read where a person on another forum said they knew these guys and said true story but

I doubt very seriously that eel weighed a 100#. They get that size and well over 100# but I dont think this one would have made 100#.

But i am like amperrig, looks more like a king snake eel.
