Default Tournament Legal Circle Hook Ilander/ballyhoo Rigs

Guys, does anyone have any suggestions on how to rig an Ilander with a circle hook and to keep it tournament legal. I had "heard" the way we were doin, by placing the hook in front of the lure isn't tournament legal and I cannot get a clear answer on this. Does anyone have any suggestions for the dilemna? I can rig plenty naked but would like to keep some options open...

Thanks

I am not aware that placing the hook in front of the lure isn't tournament legal....this is how we usually do it, and allow a long drop-back. I've seen some crews using larger circles (11/0 and bigger) inside a horse ballyhoo just like the J-hook rig. They use a light drag setting and have been having some success. Good luck

The IGFA website has all the rules to possibly answer your questions, from rigging to gaff lengths.

I asked the MA500 and WMO tournament directors the same question. Here is IGFA's response.

Subject: circle hooks

Jim,

Circle hooks may be rigged in front of bait or bait/lure combos as long as the distance from the bait and the hook is no more than one hook’s length.
