I was on the boat when the record was set,and it took us 3 days to get the fish positively identified. We had it weighed at Zeke's upon arrival, thinking it was a Blackfin.I had a blue and white Islander put out, handed it to one of the guest to put in the rod holder when it hit.Scott Waine was the angler, who will tell you how he stayed up all night prepping baits for HIS strategy on tuna spreads....Anyway,Dr.Bob Shipp with USA had to make the final decision by counting the fishes gill rakers???They are very simalar to look at,and can not be identified visually, according to Bob.If it had of been a Blackfin it would haave been close to a world record...After positive ID we were told there was not a state category for big eye...therfore it was a State record.I hope someone places in that category,so I can quit hearing about the fish he planned to catch!!!Good Luck and keep us posted..

We are hoping we got one but even if its not we still had one hell of a trip. we are eyeballing this one to be around 70-80lb range. i will post more as we get updates if it is or aint.

fantastic, can't wait to see the pics. I had a tuna jump in front of my boat last year that I don't think would have fit in the front deck. I swear it was a bigeye.

Question bigeye

I thought tuna were blue, black, or yellow. What's a bigeye??

BTW, congrats on your catch.
