Default does anyone fish the mobile bay area

hi i'm from louisiana and my family will be visiting Gulf Shores next week. Im going to be bringing my boat with me and i was goning to slip off to the mobile bay area. i was hoping some of you could give me a little advice to catch some fish. Im open to any type I just enjoy catching. I have alot of experience fishing the marshes of Louisiana for specks and reds but the areas are a little different so im sure the techniques are different. any help would be appreciated.

thank you

One option would be for you to trailer your boat to the ramp at Ft. Morgan. From there, you will be able to see the platforms in lower Mobile Bay. These platforms are often a good place to start early in the morning. Another place to try is the shoals. To get there, go under the Dauphin Island bridge hump, immediately turn right (N) and run along the west side of the bridge. There is plenty of water between the bridge and the power lines. You will see a couple of small oyster shell islands to your west. When you get abreast of them, slow down and idle over towards them. Most likely, you will see other boats in this area.

The oil rigs are a good bet. Also, you could try the "Shellbank" reef that is NE of Ft. Morgan. It nornally holds trout. For bull reds you could drift Dixey Bar at the end of Ft. Morgan on an outgoing tide. Use live croaker or large fresh dead shrimp on the bottom.

Since you're staying in Gulf Shores you could launch in Gulf Shores (under the Hwy 59 Bridge) and head west or east for any options.

west: as mentioned above. Fish the rigs, DI Bridge, Shoals, beaches Ft Morgan, Dixey Bar, etc.
Inshore and nearshore fish are avilable (specks, reds, flounder, white trout, bluefish, ladyfish, blackfish, tarpon).

east: the west side of Perdido Bay for specks, reds & flounder.
Perdido Pass for blues & reds, and outside the Pass (provided the Gulf is calm) for mackerel, etc.

This link shows the location where the launch is on the Inter Coastal Water Way

The water does need to be moving. For the bull reds at Dixey Bar an outgoing is prefered but you can catch them on an incoming. For trout on the rigs/reefs it doesn't matter as much which direction it's going as long as you have some movement. Also, be on the look out for working birds when you are in the Bay. If you find a large flock of birds(especially gulls and pelicans combined) it could make your day.

Here's a link to the tide tables for the mouth of Mobile Bay.
NEAP tides this weekend with increasing flows into next weekend (Aug 15).
